Wedding Wednesday: China Doll

Happy Wedding Wednesday!

To me, getting to register for fine china is one of the most exciting parts of the engagement process.  I've read that many modern brides are abandoning selecting a formal china pattern in lieu of more casual dinnerware.  Well call me optimistic, but I do envision myself breaking out the china for dinner parties throughout the year.

While I haven't 100% settled on any one china pattern, I do know that I'm not going to register for just one.  I'm planning on mixing and matching pieces from different patterns, manufacturers, etc.  My mom has even graciously offered up part of her china collection for me to include in my set, so whatever I pick I'd like to incorporate part of hers.

Here's what I'm thinking so far:

Now I'd love to hear from YOU...

  • Those of you who have been through the registry process - did you register for fine china?  Are you still happy with your china pattern today?  Do you actually break out the "good stuff" every one in awhile?
  • For those of you who are yet to plan your big day - do you see yourself wanting to pick out a china pattern?  Which styles do you gravitate towards?
xoxo A

They're all beautiful choices, but I would go with the royal crown derby in turquoise. Gorgeous!

Royal Crown Derby Midwinter Blue for the salad, Mom's Royal Crown Derby Derby Border for the bread plate, and her Derby Border also for dessert (salad plate really), because it will great with the coffe cup in your Trusdale.

I love Orsay Corinth and Turquoise Aves and Gold Aves! I think the soft Hydrangea look with the dotted plate in "D" looks best together. Second choice would be E because the large pattern works well with the small dot pattern. Gosford does not speak to me and the Green Oasis is a bit too Martha.

Words cannot express how much I love A. And B. So gorgoeus, and timeless, too! Although I like Carolyn's idea as well...wouldn't it be fun for family members to have memories of each holiday linked to a particular plate?

As for me, I've always hoped I'll get my grandmother or mother's china. Both of them picked out beautiful designs that are simple enough that I could pair them with my own colorful accessories too!

OH my gosh, my comment never posted. I came back to look at whatever else thought and realized mine wasn't even here. Damn. Ok lets try this again. First of all, the KW is what I want to register for too (no, I'm not engaged) and I love / am stealing the idea of mixing in a different salad plate. Ok on to my vote. Haviland is my favorite timeless classic. Love the seafoam green, gorgeous. D is an awesome, interesting, more colorful option. So sophisticated. But E would be my final pick. Its so freaking glam and gorgeous and gives you so many amazing options for the rest of your table depending on the occasion. I am all for versatility. Ok done with my rant!! These are all so so so fab.

LOVE that you'll have a mix of patterns. I regret not doing that when I registered 5 yrs ago. Maybe someday i'll decide to invest in some more :)

oh my goodness. I just came across this via Pinterest. Which one did you end up picking? I got married in May and I went with the Gold Aves(E). I have had a couple dinner parties and it is my favorite thing I got off our registry. Love!
